DIY Vintage Wire Baskets for Less!

April 24, 2013 / 22

Hi there! So a little tidbit about me that you might not know yet… I like things organized. I’m not like a neat freak or anything, but I do like for things to have their own place. It’s even better when they are actually in their place when I need them!  Who doesn’t want to be more organized, right? So in my efforts to create an organized work space in the home, I decided I to incorporate some vintage wire baskets.

vintage basket

I found these nice shiny black baskets at HomeGoods for about $3 each. Perfect style, but not so perfect finish. So I grabbed my spray paint and craft paints and went to work.

wire baskets

I covered the baskets with Valspar’s Primer Spray Paint in gray. I mixed up some acrylic paint using a whole mess of grays, metallics, and white craft paints.

Using a paint brush, any old one will do, I slapped, yes literally slapped the paint onto the baskets all quick and messy to add some texture. You know, like years and years of wear. 🙂 The whole process took about an hour one afternoon, and that’s including dry time!

They turned out just as I imagined. I added a couple of fun clothespins from the Target dollar bin, and I plan to add some numbers before it’s all said and done.

vintage basketIn fact I liked these so well, that I did the same thing with a magazine organizer that I also picked up from HomeGoods. Remember some of my inspiration ideas for the home office? I was able to find the perfect item and vintage it up a bit. Unfortunately, I don’t have a before picture of this one, but just imagine that same shiny black finish. Can you see it?? Now the after…

Slowly, it’s all starting to come together in this room! Now I’ll have a place to help organize all the clutter. And just in case things start to get a little crazy, this is always a great reminder to help keep it real around here.

good moms

That’s what I’m going with. 🙂 So maybe I don’t really need to mop these floors tonight anyway, right? See more inspiration ideas for your home office here!

This is my first time visiting your blog, and I like your style! The organizational baskets look great with their new paint coats. So, what are you going to put in them, and where are you going to put them in your office?

I added your blog URL to my Google Reader since I didn’t see a way to follow your blog. I know that Reader is going away, but I’m thinking I will find a way to move all of the blogs’ addresses to another reader such as bloglovin’. Keeping my fingers crossed I’ll get this figured out before July.

Please accept my invitation to come on over for a visit at my blog.

Hi Judith! I would love to check out your blog, so I’ll be right over soon. Thank you so much for your comments. I just spent some time tweaking a few things on the blog, so hopefully it’s easier to find the subscribe link now. So glad you told me that! I also added a blog lovin button. 🙂
I’m planning on putting the baskets in the home office which is probably going to also be some craft supply storage as well! So much stuff to organize! As for reader going away, I am using Feedly. So far, I really like it. Check it out!

Those are so pretty! I have to say that I would be doing good to just get the baskets and put stuff in them, so I am impressed that you fancied yours up like this. I especially love the look of the hanging magazine organizers. I have a place where those might work for me too. Thanks for the inspiration!
