Hellooo! How was your weekend? I’m happy to report that we survived our kickoff weekend to potty training with our little girl. It was a bit exhausting at times, I won’t lie. I can’t tell you how much your comments and encouragement really helped to keep me going when I was ready to give it up! It’s still a work in progress for many weeks to come, but I’m feeling good about it.
I did manage to get a little time away for some DIY therapy and I’m so excited to share with you that I’ve made a little more progress on the reading nook we are creating for our daughter! And when I say little, I mean baby steps. Little like, we just got new paint on the walls. 🙂
Here is what we had after we fixed all the holes that were left behind from the demolition removal of that great wire shelving. Yeah, glad to see that go. To see more about that and the inspiration behind this project, visit here.
Now after a couple of coats of Valspar Paint in Tropical Spray, we have a cheery little room! I haven’t painted the ceiling yet, and I decided not to paint it the same color as the walls. I’m planning on painting it white, but I’ve got a few other ideas in my head I am toying with too. You’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out.
The door on the left got a makeover with some chalkboard paint. It’s just attic storage behind those doors, but I wanted to utilize the space as much as I could. I had plenty of chalkboard paint left over. Rather than making another chalkboard to hang, I decided it would be easier and much more fun to just paint the whole door.
As you tell, I took these pictures when the paint was still wet. Naptime doesn’t last too long around here on the weekends, so I have to seize the moment while I can. 😉
Next up, will be to take care of that gray ceiling and start working on some bookshelves. I’m trying to decide between two ideas here. One, being these great little bookshelves I showed you before from It’s Overflowing:
Or creating a built-in look inspired by this little craft room space I found at Apartment Therapy.

I love your ideas for creating a reading nook. The new wall color is nice too.
