It’s been almost a whole month since I updated the chalkboard in the dining room and that’s just unacceptable, right? So, I was browsing around the HomeGoods store the other day (yes, again) and inspiration struck me right there on the shelf.
Okay, I know what you’re thinking… but as simple as this quote is, it’s true. And it kinda just jumped out at me when I saw it. How many times do we just go about everyday without much thought to what we do and without really enjoying the things that make us happy? So that’s why I decided to re-create this at home as a reminder to me.
So here’s how it went down…
If you’ve seen my chalkboard lettering tips before then ya’ll know I usually freehand the design, but this time I had a little help. 🙂
I printed off the letters and laid them out on my chalkboard. Using a piece of dry chalk, I rubbed down the back of each paper to create a stencil. Then I went over the lettering with a pen or pencil, using moderate pressure.
When I removed the paper, I was left with something like this… hopefully anyway! 🙂
Okay, and you see those little smears of chalk up there in the word “happy”? Don’t worry about those. We’ll clean that right up with a q-tip and water and life will go on. Now, I just went back and filled in my stenciled letters, added a little froo-froo here and there to end up with this:
What do ya think? A great reminder to that life’s too short and whatever it is that you want to do, that makes you happy… ya just gotta do it. You can see more of the chalkboard designs here and here. And if you want to create your own chalkboard design, you can read my tips for chalkboard lettering here. What’s a favorite quote or saying that you would or do use as a reminder everyday?

I love it! This is something I can do if I finally find time to create a chalkboard! I need to pin it.
