Hey ya’ll!! Today’s a good day. You know why? Because it’s Friday and because I finally have a BIG home office update to share with you. I am so stinking excited about the new home office bookcases and actually being somewhat organized in this room now. Somewhat… because I never feel completely organized. How exactly does one get completely organized with kids and dogs in the house anyway?
Remember the red room? No? Oh how could you forget the red room? Here, let me bring back a startling vision of what we started with in this room. Brace yourself. And don’t say I didn’t warn you.Seriously. It’s shocking, I know. I’ll give you a few moments to gather yourself and refocus here.
I’ve been working on “the home office update” for almost a year now. Maybe less, but it’s been far too long either way. I started out with my inspiration board and while it’s still not fully what I call finished, it’s so so close. I literally just sit in this room now just for fun and stare at the walls. Okay, maybe that sounds a little bit crazy, but nevermind that.
I love the bookcases. I tossed around the idea of built-ins, and then there was the hope chest. It just never seemed to fit anywhere. That’s when I decided on the Carson Bookcases from Target. Now, I love a good DIY project as much as the next girl, but sometimes you just want to buy something instead of building it from scratch. And this time, it was worth every penny.
So here’s the rundown on what it took to put this room together. I showed you how to install window casing. Totally changes the look of a room. The curtains came from HomeGoods. I loved the price, the color, the pattern. But they were too short. Thankfully my dear sweet Mom pulled me out of a pinch and sewed an extra panel to the bottom. (HUGS MOM!!) That’s what mother’s are for afterall, right?
I showed you how I made the vintage wire baskets on the wall and over my desk. I also converted some fabric bins into faux metal storage buckets. That’s a post for another day… stay tuned! 🙂 And then there’s the clock. The Pottery Barn Inspired clock. Best $20 project I’be done so far.
I showed you how I painted my desk and recovered that old metal chair. I added some floating shelves above my desk and a fun framed corkboard to pin my inspiration to. Right here is where it all goes down. All the blog posts created from this little happy spot. Well, except for when I’m blogging from the couch when Walking Dead or Modern Family is on or whatevs.
Oh and check out the new toy perched on my desktop right there. I was so excited to get my new Silhouette Portrait! I just need to find the time to learn all about it.
Let’s move back to the bookcases and I’ll share a little of how I styled them and created some organization. I showed you how I made my DIY wooden monogram. Definitely need to check out Happy Clam Monogram and take advantage of the 15% off Promo Code!
I added some storage baskets, some tins, a few books, and a few sentimental things as well. A few of my favorites include a water color picture that my daughter made. Her Nana and I believe it’s truly impressionistic art. Don’t ya think?? 😉 It may be my favorite piece of art. like ever. (heart melts every time I look at it.)
Another fav is the wooden plaque that my friend Tracy sent me from over at Edenhouse. (HI TRACY!!) Tracy was one of my first blog friends and she was so kind enough to make this wooden plaque for me. It reminds me of why I started blogging and it helps keep it real, you know?
So what do you think of the new home office? I’ve got more plans for the room, including lighting, more seating, and a big inspiration board. Is a room every really finished??? I’m trying to make a goal of not starting a room redo until I’m finished with another. But it’s hard. I’ve accepted that I’m DIY ADD. It will still be on my list of new year goals for 2014. 😉
