DIY Halloween Banner and Porch Decorating

October 18, 2013 / 5

Time to get the Halloween porch decorations ready for all the trick-or-treaters that are gearing up for loads of candy! I wanted to do something a little different, a little bigger than last year. I made a trick-or-treat banner for the front door decorations and added some lights to make it glow at night.

trick-or-treat-bannerI cut the canvas drop cloth in half and used mod podge to seal the edges prevent it from fraying too much. Then I used a Sharpie marker to trace the letters onto the drop cloth.

trick or treat bannerI made a no-sew hem at the top of the banners with some stitch witchery. You can see more on how to use this fantastic no-sew fusible tape here. Love this stuff!! Perfect for a no-sew girl like me. 🙂

I had a small wooden dowel on hand that I cut to fit and inserted it in the hem at the top of each banner.trick or treat bannerI tied fishing line to each end of the wooden dowels to hang them over each side of the front door.porch decorating ideasThe black fabric is hung with black pipe cleaners and 3m adhesive hooks. I pulled out my black wooden crates I made for last year’s Halloween porch decorations and added some orange and purple lights for an eerie but fun glow.

I really like the banners on the porch this year and can’t wait to sit out here Halloween night to hand out candy! My “assistant” was happy to help decorate too!  Now we just have to get her costume ready. Miss Bree has decided to be a cowgirl this year… or maybe a kitty cat. You never now what little trick-or-treater will show up this year! 😉 What costumes will your trick-or-treaters be in this year??
