HI! 🙂 Hope you’ve had a good week! I’m back and so excited to mark off another item from the to-do list of 2013 with the completion of the kiddo’s closet reading nook!
If you remember back in January this room had only a fresh coat of paint and a new DIY light pendant. Now, it’s become a favorite hangout every night for story time and play! Let’s take a look at a before picture, shall we? Hang on to your seat…
Wow, right?
After many holes patched, a little DIY, and some creative planning, this space has now transformed into a great playroom reading nook for a fun little girl!
So, let’s break this down a bit so you can see how it all comes together. The closet door got 3 fresh coats of chalkboard paint, and now gets it’s fair share of love and attention. 🙂 I picked up a magnet board from Joann’s Fabric, added a little ribbon and a flower magnet to hang on the wall. I used a wood curtain rod from Lowe’s and cut it down to size for this small space next to the door. A couple of buckets from Target’s dollar bin easily hold chalk and an eraser. The quote is one of my favorites and is a free printable from The Girl Creative.
I showed you how I made the bookshelves for less than $20. The wooden crates on the floor came from Joann’s for about $6 each. The framed flower art on either side of the window were DIY’d by yours truly. 🙂 And speaking of windows, this one got an update with a some fancy shmancy window trim.
I did another mod podge project with some colorful scrapbook paper and some wooden letters I picked up at Michael’s craft store. Afterall, what’s a good reading nook without some fun letters on the wall?? You know, just in case we forget what to do in here. 😉
I found another great free printable from J & A and Co. and there’s more where this one came from! Go check ’em out. Caaauute!
And one more from Balancing Home...
That pretty much sums it right there. Although I’m not sure which one of us enjoys the reading nook the most. Ya’ll know I got a weak spot for chalkboard doodling and that door is just too much fun in here. 🙂 Hope you enjoyed the tour of little bit’s new reading nook space! Now if we can just get through all these books. We seem to get stuck on Mickey Mouse a lot these days, but here are a few of her favs…
So what are the favorite books in your house? You know, the ones you have to read almost every.single.night. 🙂 It’s not just me, right?
Have a great weekend!!
