The First Post and A Polka-Dot Pinwheel Party

What a great weekend!! Not only is it Mother’s Day, but yesterday our little girl turned one as we celebrated with family and friends for a pinwheels and polka dots birthday bash. It was soooo exciting and luckily the rain held off until the evening. It was alot of fun planning this party even though we were right in the middle of a deck renovation. (Saving that for another post!) Some would say that I always have to have a dozen projects going on and they are right. Anywhooo…The deck is almost finished, but still needs the steps, so we had to set up some makeshift steps with cinderblocks. Luckily, the guests didn’t mind! 🙂

Here’s a few pics of our big day!
The invitations:
Okay, so that’s not a great picture, but I wanted to show you that they were all different colors. Here is a closer picture.
French Vanilla and Chocolate Fudge Cupcakes with Cream Cheese & Vanilla Buttercream Icing… y-u-m!
Got some great ideas for cupcakes from The Cupcake Blog! My sweet mother helped me make these cupcakes and let me just tell you that I’m not a big baker. I mean, who has time to bake much these days with a little one? But these cupcakes turned out great and want to know something else? They were box cupcakes!! Yep, there I said it. The pinwheel toppers were all handmade by yours truly. I found this fantastic little tutorial here to learn how to make pinwheels. I used a 2.5″ square paper punch, spray adhesive, scrapbook paper, and some small colorful brads from Hobby Lobby for the centers. Then I just glued them onto lollipop sticks and ta-da!… cupcake toppers!
I couldn’t settle on a cupcake stand to get the look I wanted AND I didn’t want to spend a lot on decorations – the stands are actually Christmas and popcorn tins  wrapped in polka dot wrapping paper from Hobby Lobby.
Just a few of her favorite things…
The Happy Birthday banner is a free printable from Anderson Ruff Custom Designs.
It was perfect for our party!
 Pinwheel sandwiches, of course!!
 The cake before…
 The birthday girl before….
And then…. wait for it….
…There we go!!! Yep, a good sign of a successful 1st birthday! :))
Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mom’s out there! Isn’t motherhood the best?? It’s moments like these that remind me of how blessed I am!
